The world’s food supplies are affected by drought, floods and frost

Extreme weather conditions are hitting crops across the world, bringing with it the threat of new food inflation at a time when costs are already nearing their highest level in a decade and hunger is on the rise.

Brazil’s worst frost in two decades has dealt a fatal blow to young people coffee trees from the largest producer in the world. Flooding in China’s main pig region has flooded farms and increased the threat of animal disease. Scorching heat and drought crushed crops on both sides of the Canada-US border. And in Europe, torrential rains have triggered the risk of fungal diseases for grains and tractors stuck in soggy fields.
