• Kofi Bentil thinks too much happening today has made Ghanaians very angry
• Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has already been pressured to step down over his role in the Sputnik V vaccine scandal
• Kofi Bentil says all of these things make him worried about the kind of country we’re building
Senior vice president of think tank Imani Africa, Kofi Bentil, said there was a lot of anger among the population over so many things, made worse by the recent Sputnik V vaccine scandal for the country.
Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has come under intense pressure to resign from his post because of his involvement in the scandal, also because the ad hoc committee set up by Parliament to examine the matter has established that he was lying under oath.
The Ministry of Finance was therefore responsible for recovering the money already paid to Sheikh Al Maktoum, the intermediary of Dubai supposed to provide the vaccines, and which he has so far returned.
“The requested amount of two million four hundred and seventy thousand US dollars (US $ 2,470,000) has already been refunded to the designated bank account, as you disclosed.
“The Swift and the payment notice for reimbursement are attached for your reference and file,” read the letter from the Sheikh’s office.
But that was not enough for Kofi Bentil, who insists that too many people have sacrificed themselves to bring this country the democracy it now enjoys.
“I was part of the fight that brought this constitution back to us and before me there were fighters, you know, Adu Boahen, the culture of silence. What I mean is we’ve been through a history of getting to where we are and establishing the rule of law and constitutional governance, but over the past 20 years we’ve slipped into worse situations. than those we knew before, ”he said.
Kofi Bentil added that the mere thought of the fact that when people complain about the rots happening in the country, others take it as a joke.
He said it was fueling something that could be even worse, especially since there are too many people angry with a lot of things going on in the country.
“So I’m worried that we’re trying to create a situation where some people are clearly above the law and you know again, it’s not like someone wants someone to be punished, but when these things are taken as a joke, alright, I’m telling you, there’s anger out there.
“There’s anger out there. Woyome has walked freely with our money and you know, every time I hear Woyome they say ‘Woyome it’s 51 million’, so let’s build a nation or what are we trying to do? “he asked.
Kofi Bentil was speaking on Saturday August 14, 2021, NewsFile edition on Joynews, and monitored by GhanaWeb.
