Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s flagship show, ” Kokrokoo, ” that his office has only one employee despite its mandate to employ around 250 people.
It may be recalled that the former special prosecutor, Martin Amidu, made certain claims to justify why he could not employ enough people to help him in his work coupled with other challenges, one of them has to do with Agyapa’s controversial deal, resulting in his resignation.
According to Kissi Agyebeng, he came to meet only one person on the payroll of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) which, for him, is worrying.
He explained why the office has only one staff member despite revealing that there are 10 members; all, with the exception of the salaried employee, are seconded.
He suggested that when he took office, one of the staff resigned for personal reasons, reducing the number of staff to nine.
The workers he thus inherited include drivers, cleaners, a prosecutor seconded from the GA office and an investigator seconded from the Ghana Police Service.
Shocking Kwami Sefa Kayi with these revelations, Kissi Agyebeng explained; “The main work of the PCO seems to be done by one person. When I checked the 2019 finance bill it says the setup we need is 251. If 251 and I only have one then I have a huge task. . . You are a special prosecutor but we have given you divisions.
“Some divisions include finance and administration; there are no human resources. We have given you the prosecution division, but there is no prosecution division. The investigation division is not there. no more divisions but if those stipulated in the law are not available, not to mention what you (the special prosecutor) need to put in place. “
However, he pledged to fulfill his mandate of recruiting more people to facilitate the work of the special prosecutor.
