Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) says it has no plans to embark on a nationwide load shedding program.
According to the company, what is being experienced in parts of Accra is part of a few projects to improve the reliability of power supply in the Greater Accra region.
He explained in a statement on Wednesday, March 31, that current projects appear to have heightened the perception of impending power cuts across the country.
“The GRIDCo wishes to assure the general public that it does not intend to embark on a program of load shedding on a national scale”, he underlined in the press release.
He listed projects such as the Pokuase and Kasoa Bulk Spply Point substation facilities funded by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) and the Tema-Accra transmission line strengthening project funded by the French Development Agency ( AFD).
The projects would be completed during the months of June and July.
GRIDCo noted that at some point in the process, contractors will need to interconnect to the current transmission network.
For this, there will be intermittent power cuts at different times to “safely connect new installations”.
“Therefore, these blackouts do not affect the whole country and will only affect parts of Accra and Winneba.”
GRIDCo said it is working with the Ghana Electricity Company (ECG), MiDA and other stakeholders to ensure minimum impact on customers in the areas to be affected.
“GRIDCo assures all Ghanaians that there is a concerted effort of all stakeholders, led by the Ministry of Energy, to ensure a consistent, accessible and reliable power supply at all times.”
