Olivier Giroud thinks that a possible transfer ban for Chelsea would strengthen his chances of staying at the club beyond this summer.

Chelsea appealed the decision of the FIFA Appeals Committee to ban a ban on two transfer windows.

The Blues have not been allowed to register new players until the summer of 2020 for allegedly breaking the rules for recruiting young players from abroad. The case of Chelsea will be presented at the hearing on April 11.

If they lose the call, Giroud thinks that he will be in a strong position with the expiry of his contract at the end of the season.

"At the club, we still have to wait to see if we will have the opportunity to bring players [in the next transfer windows]said Giroud.

If this is not the case, the club will be blocked and maybe he will need me more to offer me something. I'm very happy there, but it depends on a few things we'll see.

Aged 32, the return to France was linked – Lyon would be a possible destination – but Giroud said he was happy at Chelsea and now wants to focus on the race to rank among the top four in the Premier League .

He added: "The French media have made too many comments from me to try to push me to move to Lyon.

"I remain objective, and if I can stay in Chelsea I will be happy – but I have to play more.

"For the moment, we have a very big game against Cardiff this weekend. There are only eight games remaining, and for the Champions League places, we will try to win them all.
