What started out as a simple petition to a mother has turned into a real mobilization point, many patiently waiting to see how it all unfolds in a school in Sakaman, Accra.
For many of those with their basic education in Ghana, the concept of “Our Day” may not be overkill, as some have taken away their favorite foods and drinks to commemorate the end of an academic term.
In what is set to be one of the most sought-after celebrations of this conventional stage, a Grade 3 student who has sought to ask his mother for a list of items, is now the talking point of the city.
In what appears to be a passionate appeal to his mother to fulfill her pledge to pass her exams, Oswald urged her to keep her pledge by meeting her needs on Fridays starting with a “big Coke for Mrs. Appiah.”
“Things to Bring on Our Day,” was the title of the list written in pencil and dated July 29.
Items cleverly detailed by the nine-year-old – using diagrams – included cookies, drinks, and a communication of a so-called waiver by his teacher to allow him to use his iPad device in class, just to the occasion.
The petition was first posted to Twitter by @ SmylyThe3rd saying “Our day’s instructions my colleague’s son gave him. Emotional blackmail at the end.

The post has since gone viral with “Our Day” collecting nearly 200,000 tweets alongside “Ms. Appiah” seen as the student’s (favorite) teacher also in Ghana’s Twitter trends.
Our distant nephew is about to have the biggest Our Day in Our Day’s history. The little man is about to be appointed school prefect.

Where was the emotional blackmail? Wait for it.
“It’s my Friday day, so don’t disappoint me. Otherwise you are going to ruin my day if I do not celebrate well I will have to wait a long time yet. I didn’t disappoint you in the exams so don’t disappoint me, ”he wrote.
My boy was done with ‘thank you’ and realized that nahhh… that disappointment came back and said we were all going to handle here. You choose the exams, I choose Our Day

Eventually, it sparked an uproar on social media, including reactions from a demographic that no one saw coming in regards to regular online jokes.

Whether she will still allow the boy to use his iPad at school after receiving the gesture remains an unanswered question on D-Day.
