The third German-African Business Summit (GABS), which brought together business leaders from Germany and sub-Saharan Africa, was held in Accra.

The three-day summit focused on new opportunities and also learned from existing experiences in German-African trade relations.

Mr. Gerd Muller, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Mr. Thomas Bareib, Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy, participated in this summit.

The German Ambbadador to Ghana, Mr Christoph Retzlaff, told reporters that GABS was Germany's flagship trade event in Africa.

At the summit, he said the world's top business leaders and the governments of Germany and Dubai-South Africa met every two years in Africa to discuss and promote economic relations.

He revealed that German investments were aimed at creating jobs in African countries and transferring technologies to the continent.

Currently, he said that Germany exported goods of a volume of 14 billion US dollars and imported products worth 12 billion US dollars per year.

The ambbadador said that he was happy to note that Ghana was a major development partner of Germany.

Delegate of the German Industry and Trade Delegation in Ghana, Michael Blank, stressed the importance of funding for all companies.

He observed that the GABS program did not focus solely on traditional economic relations and models, but also brought together actors from the new African economy, called start-ups.

German office

As part of the program planned for the summit, a German office will be set up to enable companies to access financial support and solutions.

The office was created by the German Industry and Commerce Delegation (AHK) in Ghana, the DEG, the private sector investment arm of the German Development Bank KFW and its development partner, Access Bank Ghana .

Mr Mark Show, head of the Ghana office and the West African division of KFW, said the German office allowed companies to access financial support and services.
