The third edition of the Ghana Beverage Awards (GBA) was launched with the introduction of four new categories to honor more players in the beverage industry.

Additional categories include international wine of the year, international beer of the year, the international spirit of the year and the new drink of the year.

On the theme of "Drink Ghana, Source of Excellence in Ghana's Beverage Industry", this year's event is expected to promote the local beverage industry with a focus on Ghanaians' interest in local products. .

This is an initiative of the Global Media Alliance (GMA), supported by the CSIR Food Research Institute (FRI), the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Ghana Food and Beverage Association. .

The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Abelema Afeku, at the launch ceremony of the awards program on 1 February in Accra, said that her ministry was ready to support activities promoting the name of Ghana on the world market.

"This awards program deserves the indispensable support because it does everything possible to celebrate the local beverage industry.

"About a year ago, my ministry proposed a policy to encourage Ghanaians to use local products to promote domestic tourism," she said.

According to her, the introduction of this edition "Drink Ghana" rewards program complements the ministry's quest to encourage Ghanaian-made products to foster economic growth.

However, it called on beverage companies to find innovative ways to develop more traditional Ghanaian beverages, market them with the brand, and sell them internationally.


"We need to make the most of Ghana and share with the world what we value most."

Focus this year

Mr. Ernest Boateng, President and CEO of GMA, said that this year's GBA wants to promote the efforts of small and medium-sized beverage companies in the country.

"We envision a future in which local beverages will get the visibility or exposure needed to attract the local and foreign market."
