Today brings us the first trailer of Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan The Addams family, a new animated MGM movie based on the iconic Charles Addams series of the same name. Unlike Barry Sonnenfeld's films of the mid-1990s, this Addams family find the animated characters, their original drawings brought to life grotesque thanks to the magic of computers.
How does it look? See what you think:
Look, I've always been a fan of these Sonnenfeld joints (Addams Family Values particularly undervalued, IMHO) but this trailer finally made me understand how much I love these live-action versions, and it's hard not to compare. The vocal cast seems to give the maximum, but even people as talented as Charlize Theron (Morticia) and Oscar Isaac (Gomez) can not erase the memory of Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston's perfect tricks in the same role. . The character designs (as faithful as they are to the source material!) Are really disconcerting in three dimensions, making the whole lot less palatable to the eyes than Sonnenfeld's view of the material, and the jokes here are definitely less biting. (and funny). This version of The Addams family do not look wrong, in itself, but he has not sold me yet.
Never mind. They have until October 11 to convince me. How is it going? You like it? Not really? Are you, like me, simply inspired to come back on Sonnenfeld's versions? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned to find out more about The Addams family as new updates become available.
