“This Dumsor is a different kind of Sumsor” – Buaben Asamoa from NPP | General news

New Patriotic Party communications director Yaw Buaben Asamoa described the recent intermittent power cuts in the country as “different” as opposed to those of the time of former President John Mahama.

According to him, the infrastructure of the transmission lines has undergone enormous pressure, hence the reasons for the breakdowns.

Speaking as part of JoyNews’ NewsFile program, Yaw Buaben Asamoa urged citizens to be patient with government and energy sector actors when they find viable ways to address the issue.

“This ‘dumsor’ is another type of ‘dumsor’. We have to accept it and move on because the transport infrastructure has come under enormous pressure. It is important that we accept that there is a problem and that the problem will be worked on, ”said the communications director.

Benjamin Boakye, executive director of the African Center for Energy Policy, for his part called for critical attention to the indebtedness owed to electricity transmission and distribution companies such as the Ghana Grid Company Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana. .

“The indebtedness to GRIDCo has worsened over the years and it is important that we pay close attention to it. If the government continues to use the electricity sector for politics, then we will be in this situation for a long time. We need a comprehensive strategic look at our energy sector, ”Boakye warned.

For almost 3 years from 2015, Ghana experienced a persistent and irregular electricity crisis.

This was caused by power shortages of transmission and distribution companies.

At the time, Ghana had an electricity generating capacity of only 400-600 megawatts, a figure that was lower than the country needed and this resulted in a long-running load-shedding exercise across the country. .
