The Chevrolet Corvette 2020 is out and people can not get enough. With a starting price of less than $ 60,000 and an LS2 V8 placed behind the driver, it has all the qualities to become the performance business of the century. It was long in coming; The idea of a mid-engine Corvette has rocked for decades, although, obviously, the original design of the new C8 is not so old. We strive to learn more about this design process.
An anonymous person who has already had links with GM in terms of design helps us in this area. With the permission of this person, we previously posted a collage of the first C8 concept sketches on July 22nd and feel that they are authentic. We now have a new sketch of this person, illustrating a unique Corvette design that we believe dates back to 2007 – shortly after the launch of the Corvette C6. This should give you an idea of how long the wheels have turned on this new American supercar.
Compared to the previous collage (top right), this unique design has the impression of being able to serve as a base for the C8. The forward-sloping side entrances that first appeared on the Indy Concept Corvette in 1985 are present and this design element would eventually switch to C8 production. In fact, the car as a whole has a distinct impression of Corvette Indy / CERV III, although we also saw a lot of Corvette production influence in the design. The grille is a true tribute to the first-generation Corvette C1, while the flared front wings have a separate C3 arch. The wide, flat hood looks like a C4 and the wheels are almost a true copy of those you would find on a C5 Z06.
It's also flat bad in its appearance, and we hear that in a very good sense. Low, long and wide, it probably deserves more attention than the C8. This design does not include any Chevrolet badge, but even without it, this car could be recognized as a Corvette. The new C8 has the recognizable DNA of its predecessors, but not in the same way as this concept.
We do not know exactly where this design is in the C8 hierarchy of concepts. More than a few Motor1.com the publishers believe that this car has a better result than the Stingray 2020, which raises the question. Is the car supposed to debut as a new mid-engine Corvette?
