Liverpool legend Steve McMahon believes Red Central defender Joel Matip is prone to errors.
While Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez spend time on the sidelines, Matip joined Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool's defense.
Some Liverpool fans have long wondered if Matip is designed for the face of Premier League football.
And McMahon admits that every game played by Matip, he fears to be wrong.
However, the former Red admits that Matip sometimes looks great, especially when he is on the ball and he went out of the defense to join the midfield.
"He looks like he's making a mistake every game, he's really doing it. "McMahon said on the preview show of LFC TV.
"Sometimes he does not look as composed as he should do it.
"Other times, he looks fantastic and especially when he goes out and brings the ball in the middle of the field.
"But you can see that he wants to be next to Van Dijk and that he is the man out there now. "
Matip played his part in helping Liverpool to overtake Bayern Munich in the Champions League midweek and the former Schalke player will try to retain his place in the team in the coming weeks.
The 27-year-old is under contract to Anfield until the summer of 2020.
