Chelsea are looking to strengthen their attacking options in the summer transfer window.
The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland are just a few of the big names who have been linked with a move to West London ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season.
But towards the end of last season, it emerged that Kai Havertz – a summer 2020 signing from Bayer Leverkusen on a £ 71million contract – had already resolved Thomas Tuchel’s problematic position at Chelsea.
Not only did the German star score the only goal of the game against Manchester City in the Champions League final, but he also impressed with the role of the “false 9” in the victories against Crystal Palace and Fulham.
Additionally, he admitted that he was starting to like playing as the focal point of the attack.
“Maybe I would call it a false nine,” he told Sky Sports. “I’m not the big middle guy like some forwards. I play the position a little differently.
“That’s why it’s good that we have a lot of quality players next to me, and it’s always easy to play with them.
“For me it’s a good position and I like it. I feel very comfortable there.
“I always like to go into the spaces and put the ball in and I like to play in front close to the goal, it’s also great for me, so overall I think I like the position and that suits me. . “
However, after seeing Havertz impress with a right-wing role as Germany collapsed out of Euro 2020 against England, some Chelsea fans believe that should be his starting position next season.
And that club manager Marina Granovskaia is expected to make a £ 149million transfer to Haaland so the Norwegian can be the focal point of Tuchel’s attack.
The summer window is officially open and the Blues can now rely on European glory and strengthen the team to push for Premier League supremacy.
