The suspects allegedly transported the substance from the Northeast region
Police in the northern region arrested three of the five suspects in possession of suspected substances to be Indian hemp.
The suspects were arrested by a police patrol in the Savelugu search area on Thursday morning around 11 am, after being warned.
The suspects are Fatawu Tiniya, 29, Masahudu Iddrisu, 20, and Zaka Mahama, 23.
According to the police, two of the suspects fled. However, the five motorcycles belonging to the suspects were intercepted and are in custody.
Press information in Tamale on the arrest, the crime officer of the Northeast Police, the Superintendent of Police, Kwabena Otuo Acheampong sai, during a screening test of the substance is found to be positive.
"Yesterday, the 11th of this month, our officers were on patrol at Savelugu OAR. They learned that five young men were wearing suspicious substances to be Indian hemp. Two of the suspects managed to escape, "said Superintendent Otuo Acheampong.
The suspects reportedly transported the substance from the northeastern region and headed for Tamale.
"They alleged that they came from a community in the Northeast Region to the Northern Region, Tamale, when they were intercepted on the way that we also checked."
The three suspects must appear in Tamale High Court Friday for possession of narcotic substances without authorization.
