Three-quarters of Irish people with inflammatory bowel disease feel isolated, and nearly 90% of them are worried about the availability of the bathroom when they go elsewhere.

The study, conducted by the Irish Society for Colitis and Crohn's Disease (ISCC), found that 75% of patients with this condition felt isolated on a daily basis.

More (78%) reported that the illness had a negative impact on their mental health.

To mark ISB World Day, May 19, the ISCC launched a new app to help the Irish suffering from this disease.

It is estimated that around 40,000 people currently live with an ITN in Ireland.

ISCC President Bruno Lucas said the application was a "vital tool" that should help people with IBD to better manage their condition.
