Tiger Woods achieved a brilliant final to win a fifth Masters title and end 11 years of waiting to qualify for a major 15th.
There were lively celebrations around the 18th green while Woods finished with a one-under 70 to win 13s, one more than his compatriots Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka.
The hopes of night leader Francesco Molinari collapsed with two double bogeys in the back and he had to be content with a fifth of 11.
Woods, crushed by so many people while he was struggling for back problems in recent years, looked so pleased, a broad smile on his face, before celebrating with his children at the bottom of the green.
"I'm a little hoarse to scream," said the 43-year-old. "I was just trying to make my way all day, and then all of a sudden I had the lead.
"I was just 18 years old.I was just trying to make a five. When I typed, I do not know what I did, I know that I've calls out.
"To have my children there, the circle is complete My father was here in 1997 and now I am the father of two children."
"It will be one of the hardest to win because of what has happened in the last two years."
This is the first time Woods returns in the last lap to win a major victory and this is his first Masters victory since 2005.
He is now just one behind the record of Jack Nicklaus with six wins at Augusta National and three behind the major count of his American compatriot of 18.
This marks a remarkable resurgence for Woods, who missed both the 2016 and 2017 Masters because of his back problems and finally had a merger deal in April of the same year.
A superb 2018 followed, where he was challenged at the Open before finishing sixth and attracting eventual champion Koepka to the US PGA Championship.
He then finished the season winning the league title, his 80th PGA Tour title, putting him behind Sam Snead's record of 82.
