Tuesday night VeepTimothy Simons has revealed the true inspiration of his irascible and hateful character, Jonah Ryan, and the answer makes sense: Ted Cruz.
Appearing on Late at night with seth meyerSimons pointed out how the political world, under the Trump administration, managed to surpbad even Veepis horrible over-the-top. He said of his own character, "He is without charm, and he is merciless, and he is narcissistic, and he cares about no one except himself."
At first, Simons noted, Ryan was based on "lackeys who are only interested in the proximity of power." But as Jonah had managed to climb the political ladder on the screen, said Simons, "the person, speaking of no charm and no grace and that I hated universally, I based a lot on Ted Cruz."
Noting how Cruz "fell backwards in some kind of power," said Simons, "and that's really Jonah's mood," which proves how much truth can really be stranger than fiction.
