TOKYO, October 9 (Reuters) – The Tokyo government said on Saturday that new daily COVID-19 infections in the Japanese capital fell to 82, the lowest since October 19 last year.

Cases have been declining since they peaked at more than 5,000 a day in August in a wave driven by the highly infectious Delta variant. Last week, Tokyo and much of Japan emerged from the nearly six-month state of emergency.
