TOKYO: According to one study, eating unsweetened tomato juice can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels in adults at risk for cardiovascular disease.

For the study, published in the journal Food Science and Nutrition, researchers from the Medical and Dental University of Tokyo, Japan, examined nearly 500 residents – 184 men and 297 women.

It was found that the blood pressure of 94 participants with pre-hypertension or untreated hypertension dropped significantly.

Heart attack
Tomato juice can help improve heart health by reducing the risk of heart disease.

Systolic blood pressure decreased from 141.2 to 137 mmHg on average and diastolic pressure from 83.3 to 80.9 mmHg on average.

High levels of LDL (or bad cholesterol) in 125 participants decreased from an average of 155 to 149.9 mg / dL, the study said.

According to the researchers, these beneficial effects were similar in men and women and also in different age groups.
