Although the Oscars will not take place until next February, the election campaign is just beginning. Last year, our genre celebrated several big wins, but none would be as big as Toni Collette winning the best actress for her performance in Hereditary. She has a fierce competition this year, especially with the performance of Lady Gaga in A star is born, but I really believe that it is Collette who beats.
Although both have yet to be officially nominated, Collette launched her Oscar campaign by winning the Best Actress award at last night's Gotham Awards. Several award ceremonies lead to the Oscars and we expect Collette to win a handful.
Here are the results of last night:
Best actress
Glenn Close, "The woman"
Toni Collette, "hereditary"
Kathryn Hahn, "Privacy"
Regina Hall, "Support the girls"
Michelle Pfeiffer, "Where is Kyra?"
