Auditor General Daniel Domelevo in conflict with his chairman of the board
Auditor General Daniel Domelovo said officials who have reached retirement age but are still in the public service will soon be removed from the public sector payroll.
The move is intended to rid the service of excess staff in accordance with the regulations of the public service.
"We will also identify people who are overworked because, under Article 199 of the Constitution, which is the supreme law of Ghana, it says that if you are a civil servant, you go home at 60, depending on the requirements you can obtain a contract of two years, two years and a maximum – five years.
"But some workers are 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 and they are still there. When will they leave? We will publish these names and ban their presence on the payroll so that they can appeal to the Supreme Court and appeal this decision, "warned Mr. Domelevo at the 5th conference of delegates of the Audit Services Division of the Public Sector Union Workers Union of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The statement comes at a time when the government denies information that it has ordered public sector CEOs over the age of retirement to leave office.
The reports suggest that the presidency had ordered eight CEOs to leave their positions by the end of March because of their age.
