Every April, vinyl geeks from around the world gather at local music stores to celebrate Record Shop Day. It's a chance for them to get their hands on limited-edition records that they can not buy online or in chain stores and capture intimate performances in-store. The tradition began in 2008 and has grown and improved each year, playing a key role in the survival of record stores. Before the big event on Saturday, we went through the exhaustive list of releases of 2019 and released our 10 favorite exclusives. (Unfortunately, Cheech and Chong have been left out.)
Soccer Mom, For young hearts
Two years before seducing indie-rock fans with his debut, CleanMommy Soccer – Sophie Allison – was already an unusually lively singer-songwriter. This eight-song EP, recorded while she was still at New York University, abounds with stunning, sad weekend anthems like "Inside Out," "Grown," and "Henry." Originally published as a limited edition cbadette by Orchid Tapes. In 2016, and exhausted for a long time, he's back on the green-smoke vinyl for Record Store Day. S.V.L.
Bob Dylan, Blood on the tracks – Original test pressing
After spending less than a week at the New York A & R recording studio with producer Phil Ramone in 1974, Bob Dylan thought he was done with Blood on the trail. The test reviews of the new album were sent to the critics, but at the last minute, Dylan changed his mind and re-recorded half of the songs in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The New York press has been heavily hacked over the years and many fans think it's the top version of the album. The full New York sessions have been published on completeness More blood, more leads cabinet in 2018, but this is the first time that the original version of the press press is officially sold alone. Elton John, Live from Moscow
In May 1979, Elton John became the first major Western pop star to perform in Soviet Russia. It was a neat show where he was joined only by percussionist Ray Cooper. The duo played songs from his entire career including "Bennie and the Jets", "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" and "Better Off Dead". Bootlegs from a BBC show have been circulating for decades, but it's the first time it's ever been released on vinyl. A.G.
Jeff Tweedy, Hotter
Jeff Tweedy had a creative boost during Wilco's "extended break": "Last fall, he released a memoir and his very first solo album of new songs (Hot), and these same sessions were so successful that they also gave another set of 10 songs, released this weekend. Recorded at Wilco's studio in Chicago, The Loft, Hotter will make its first appearance as a limited edition of 5,000 copies on vinyl. S.V.L.
Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions by Weezer
Savvy parents know that Rockabye Baby's instrumental clutch discs! Are an endless fun for rock and roll kids and their adults. Now the series launches into intergenerational Weezer party with sleep asleep takes "Say it is not the case", "El Scorcho" and, yes, "Only in Dreams". The set of 12 deeply soothing songs is transparent vinyl for RSD. (Also note for Weezer fans: Dusty gems and raw nuggets, a vinyl pressing of demos, B-faces and live tracks from the Blue Album era exclusively on RSD, was only available on the Deluxe editions of this 1994 clbadic). Courtney Barnett, "Everyone here hates you"
This RSD-exclusive 12 "single features Barnett's biting A side, which combines epic and disappointing lyrics (" I feel stupid, I feel useless, I feel crazy ") with a crunchy guitar sound like her. the can. (Part B, "Small Talk", is a loosie from last year.) Like "Three Packs a Day", she recalls that even her licensed ones are gilded. S.V.L.
Lost in Translation (Music from the soundtrack)
Sofia Coppola's pop-pop soundtrack Lost in translation The film was released for the first time in vinyl since the release of the film in 2003. It contains five songs of Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine (including the syrupy "City Girl"), as well as "Just Like Honey" of Jesus and Mary Chain . Sixteen years later, these chic jewels still make you want to stroll through the streets of Tokyo at midnight. A M.
Various artists, Woodstock – Mono PA version
Instead of choosing between two Woodstock birthday concerts in competition this summer, hang on to the mono soundtrack that plunges you into the mud of the original 1969. The 3LP contains the full versions of the songs that were Shortcuts for the soundtrack in 1970, so I hope you will hear Neil Young harmonize with his fellow NYC group. A M.
Various artists, Office space
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the cult clbadic Office space, the soundtrack is released on a limited edition vinyl "red stapler". It's packed with hip-hop clbadics from the '90s, including everyone from Canibus to Kool Keith, Slum Village and Ice Cube. Of course, the highlight of the evening is "Damn, it feels good to be a gangsta" Geto Boys, the ideal song to play while crushing a printer office. A.G.
Bingo Main Job, Living at the border 1991
Unless you are serious. Scholar, you have probably never heard of Bingo Hand Job, a fictitious name used by the biggest alt-rock of Athens, Georgia for a pair of secret acoustic gigs at a London club in the spring of 1991. Recorded right after the release of Out of time, this official bootleg includes several excerpts from this album ("Low", "Half A World Away", "Radio Song"), as well as older clbadics such as "Fall on Me", "Perfect Circle" and "Swan Swan" H. "He came out on an edition of two 3000 discs. S.V.L.
