Toshiba unveiled Tuesday its new SmartNAND flash memory with support for flash chips up to 64GB. With a next-generation 24-nanometer process, the new design includes a better memory controller that speeds up the reading and playback processes. It is possible that the new SmartNAND replaces the Samsung flash memory in the current iPhone 4 and allows for a 64GB 64GB iPhone. A prototype iPhone 4 of 64 GB has recently been discovered on the Chinese gray market. A report from the era excluded new generation 64GB devices, suggesting that Apple was testing the largest flash memory of a future iPhone.
