Total has started production in the field on Kaombo with the start of the 2nd FPSO

PARIS – Total has started production of Kaombo Sul, the second floating production storage and unloading unit (FPSO) of the Kaombo project, located in Block 32, 260 km off the coast of Luanda, at depths ranging from 1493 to 6,562 ft (1,400 to 2,000 m).

Eight months after the commissioning of its twin ship, Kaombo Norte, Kaombo Sul will add 115,000 bpd and bring the total production capacity to 230,000 bpd, or 15% of the country's production. Associated gas from Kaombo Sul will be exported to the Angola LNG plant, as part of the Group's commitment to end the usual flaring.

"Taking advantage of the Kaombo Norte experience, Kaombo Sul started in the best possible conditions. This second FPSO is an excellent example of standardization to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Its start-up will contribute to the Group's cash and production growth in 2019 and beyond, "said Arnaud Breuillac, president of exploration and production at Total. "This achievement demonstrates once again Total's commitment to Angola, as the Group develops short-cycle projects on Block 17 in parallel and is preparing to drill an exploration well on Block 48."

The complete development of Kaombo consists of six fields spread over an area of ​​800 km². Gengibre, Gindungo and Caril were connected to the Kaombo Norte FPSO which started last year, while the three fields, Mostarda, Canela and Louro, are now connected to Kaombo Sul. (see map)

The project includes a vast underwater system comprising 59 wells (more than 60% of which have already been drilled) and two FPSO units converted from very large crude carriers.

Kaombo also sets a new record in terms of local content in Angola: 20% of the 110 million hours worked were worked locally.

Total operates block 32 with a 30% stake, alongside Sonangol P & P (30%), Sonangol Sinopec International 32 Limited (20%), Esso Exploration & Production Angola (Overseas) Limited (15%) and Galp Energia Overseas Block 32 BV (5%).

Present in Angola since 1953, Total is the largest oil operator in the country. Total production totaled 211,000 units in 2018 for blocks 0, 14, 14K, 17 and 32, as well as for Angola LNG.

In addition to Block 32, whose production began in July 2018 with Kaombo Norte, Total operates Block 17 (with a 40% stake) in which investment decisions were made in 2018 for the launch of three new projects. satellite projects: Zinia 2, Clov 2 and Dalia. 3

Total is a partner in blocks 0 (10%), 14 (20%), 14K (36.75%) and 16/06 (65%), as well as in Angola LNG (13.6%) and in different licenses exploration. In 2018, the Group signed a risk service agreement with Sonangol for the deep-water exploration license for Block 48, operated by Total.

Last year, Total and Sonangol also created a joint venture to develop a network of service stations in Angola, including logistics and petroleum product supply.
