Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the International Champions Cup Thursday as goals from Anthony Martial and Angel Gomes scored Mauricio Pochettino's men in Shanghai.
After a strong start to the match, United was close to the goal, Martial recovering after a very good run of Daniel James in the middle of the field. Some sustained pressure from the Red Devils then declined and Dele Alli forced David de Gea to make a smart save after a great session by Tory Parrott.
The deadlock was lifted after 21 minutes when Martial fired a combination of the arm and leg of Paulo Gazzaniga after a deep pbad from Andrea Pereira. Shortly after, Moussa Sissoko was fortunate to avoid serious punishment after an apparent seal on James, a small scrum ensuing between the two camps.
United continued to look good and Paul Pogba shot a hard shot just before the halftime whistle.
Major changes occurred on both sides during the break, with substitute Son Heung-min attempting a bold long-range strike on Sergio Romero five minutes into the half. With the South Koreans on the front, the Spurs seemed a lot livelier, and the equalizer of their batters was made via Lucas Moura's deflected shot in the 65th minute.

After their spectacular victory over Juventus, the Spurs played against their known opponents in the form of their Premier League rivals United. The first two minutes seemed to set a precedent for the rest of the match, but a few whimsical crossovers and a slow game allowed the Spurs to finish second best throughout the first half.
The addition of Son for the second period seemed to bring Tottenham to life, and the South Korean was a threat to the Red Devils four back among a rejuvenated Spurs team. The goal of Moura was very lucky, but that of Mauricio Pochettino was changed.
They seemed more likely to win the match, but they took less than ten minutes to play after a nice attack from their opponents. Pochettino will be delighted with the posting of the second half of his team – which was a huge improvement over the first – but could worry about his inability to capitalize when he is at the top.

When you sign up for the club, no matter how you describe it, the pressure is definitely on you. Tanguy Ndombele It looks like he could be the ideal midfielder for the Spurs, showing the features that are needed to play that role already in his short match with Tottenham.

With two signings in the bag and some others supposedly on the way, there is nothing to worry about for United. Three wins out of three in their pre-season tour added to the optimism, although very little could have discouraged the Old Trafford minds after last season.
After surviving a start of the Spurs barrage, United started playing and the young stars took up the challenge. Their opponents were under control for a good part of the first half and rightly led after 45 minutes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was eager to reserve energy by the heat while the Red Devils had to show their defensive side for extended periods, without however preventing Tottenham 's equalizer from balancing. It did not matter, though, as another of United's exciting young talents was performing on the big stage to improve the wellness factor around Old Trafford for the moment.

It was hacked at times during the first half, but a testament to Daniel JamesThe character and will to succeed are the fact that he has stood up every time, undeterred by the occasion, and even by a stamp of Sissoko.
More importantly, his pace of work was unmatched, giving off a blistering left-wing rush at the slightest opportunity and allowing Ashley Young to cover as needed. An example of his determination was the moment he lost the ball on the left, but sprinted to the other end of the field to regain his fury.

Look to the front
The next step for United is a trip to Sweden, where they will face Kristiansund at the Ullevaal Stadion on Tuesday as their pre-season tour continues.
Meanwhile, the Spurs are playing in a semi-final of the Audi Cup with the Spanish giant Real Madrid on Tuesday at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
