Long after the Wembley stadium erupted and then emptied, the dashboard remained visible on the big screen, white on a bright blue background: 3-0. Like the English 5-1 in Munich, there will be a lot of photographic memories of this show.
The German teams do not lose 3-0 in the knockout matches, not the leaders of the Bundesliga anyway. Borussia Dortmund was swept away by a phenomenal second-half performance by Mauricio Pochettino. Tottenham, the tie close to win midway.
There have been great European nights under this manager, but the stage of the competition is probably the biggest. The group's victory against Real Madrid in 2017 was only of limited value. Madrid raised the trophy, Tottenham came out in the last 16. But here? Tottenham should qualify for the quarterfinals and shake the other clubs. Who will want to face the team that put Dortmund apart, regardless of their historical pedigree in this competition?

Dortmund had the best of the first half, there is no doubt. Jadon Sancho, who showed English football what was missing, and Christian Pulisic, who seemed to be playing in the blue shirt of Chelsea, but not Eden Hazard.
But after half-time? Oh my. A different Tottenham emerged and Dortmund could not handle it; could not handle their energy, their high pressure, their finish. Dortmund wanted to pbad the ball into the net, Tottenham responded with three finishes in one touchdown, two volley and a header. It was a beautiful football, but economical too. They did not soften Dortmund. Each punch simply threw them on the canvas.
Naturally, a man started. His Heung-min likes to play in Dortmund, as the record books show. He scored more goals against him than any other club: five in five games with Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, and now four in five games with Tottenham in Europe. It's an amazing race.

Yet credit also, where it is due. His Wednesday night's intervention was not fatal or inevitable. His form against Dortmund, the certainty that he marks, is not actually written in the stars. It was the work of an absolutely top-down attacker, the man who kept the hot Tottenham season waiting for the return of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
It was not just that he had found a way around the yellow wall; Right now, Son could find a way to cross pretty much any defensive line. With Tottenham plagued by injuries, he continues his momentum in this corner of the north (west, temporarily) of London. If Kane and Alli are reinstated in a team that is still fighting for the Champions League and the title, they will know who to thank. Son has scored 11 goals in his last 12 games and, above all, in 10 of the last 12. He gets a lot of singles, which keeps Tottenham hot; his goals are often the vital breakthrough, plus the odd winner.
I am also happy that so many of his compatriots – and women – are making the trip to see the best Asian player in Premier League history. Before the kickoff, the streets around Wembley were visibly populated either by Asian visitors or by members of the ex-Pat Korean community in Britain.

There have been good Korean players here before, but none really looks like that. Ji Sung-Park had an excellent run at Manchester United, but it was invariably part of the premier cast, rather than a marquee.
His is currently the star of Tottenham – surely their player of the season – and a true contender for the title of footballer of the year. He led the sideline Wednesday night, unlocked the impbade and inspired a win against a team that is favored to be German champion in May.
That is the biggest defeat of Dortmund in the Champions League. An early goal or two in the game on the outside and who knows, but it would take a disaster for Tottenham not to progress now.
A word too, for Jan Vertonghen. He says he hates playing at the back, not to mention going back, but took over the role of Roberto Carlos after halftime. He scored the goal for Son and scored the second goal. The third, a Fernando Llorente header from Christian Eriksen's corner, came at a time when Dortmund was simply desperate. It may be the one who also finished them.

His first strike, canceling so many good jobs from visitors in the first period. Tottenham's high press cashed Dortmund and possession was conceded by Achraf Hakimi on the left flank. Vertonghen's center was past defender Dan-Axel Zagadou's header, which was misplaced, and His attacked him on the fly, perfectly placed in the corner of the net.
The second took the same path to the goal. Center Serge Aurier – who did well to keep the ball behind the goalkeeper after scoring a goal in the 12th minute – took it behind the goalkeeper Roman Burki.
The last time Dortmund visited Wembley, it was they who had injury problems and Tottenham also won them that day. Nobody imagined a rehearsal on this occasion, however, with Tottenham at a disadvantage, but the warning signs were there early.
Tottenham pressed very hard and buzzed in the middle of the field, without testing Dortmund too much, with the exception of a shot from Son, which Burki kept out of his legs, and another from Lucas Moura, who pbaded right next door. Yet, the strategy, when properly executed, has worked.

At this point, however, Dortmund still seemed the strongest, Sancho in particular. What a windfall it would have been for Manchester City if his club had been more interested in giving the best of their youth team a promotion opportunity.
Sancho certainly made the right choice, deciding that he had more to offer than what City was willing to show. He was at the heart of everything that was good about Dortmund in the first half. One of his first moves: he eliminated two Tottenham players from the game, dropped the ball, before reaching the field further and badping the ball. cross who came only in pain when he cut one of his teammates on his way to the area.
Nevertheless, despite all the pressure from Dortmund – and this is an improved team in 2017, despite the injuries, the real chances were limited. In the 15th minute, Tottenham was found in a terrible entanglement when the desire to play at the back became a check that they could not cash. Toby Alderweireld was put under pressure and took one in panic to Juan Foyth, who received the ball with all the pleasure of being able to get a parking ticket. Pulisic jumped but the angle was tight and Lloris saved at the near post.
Thomas Delaney forced another Lloris rescue after 35 minutes, but Dortmund's best chance was just before half-time. Sancho pbaded right, the ball found Zagadou at the far post. Foyth took over, which allowed Lloris to catch him when it looked like Dortmund was going to take the lead.
Not quite Gordon Banks in Guadalajara, but the evening when Wembley was silent briefly in memory of the biggest goalkeeper, he would have surely enjoyed the athleticism of another World Cup winner; and later worth another Wembley victory over the Germans, of course.
