Tottenham Hotspur has proposed to Christian Eriksen to sign a new contract with the midfielder who plans to move away from North London.

The 27-year-old still has one year of contract and has openly declared that he is ready for a new challenge. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are all interested in his services.

However, he also added that this must be a step forward and that if the good offer does not come, he would be happy to extend his stay in Spurs.

The Champions League finalists are keen to hold on to the influential Danish and have offered him a new contract worth £ 200,000 a week, reports the Online Mail.

This is a substantial increase over Eriksen's current contract which earns him £ 80,000 a week.

However, the hierarchy among the Spurs has been pinned to the fact that Eriksen does not make his decision based on wages, but on whether an interesting opportunity arises.

"I feel like I'm in my career a place where I might want to try something new," Eriksen told the Danish publication Ekstra Bladet in June. "I have the most savage and deepest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham. But I also said that I would like to try something new.

"I hope something will be decided this summer. That's the plan. In football, you never know when there could be such a decision. It could be anytime. The best thing to do is always that it happens quickly, but in football, it takes time.

"Real Madrid is a step forward, but then Real Madrid should pick up the phone and contact Tottenham and say that he wants Christian, and that has not been done as far as I know.

"It all depends on [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy and there must be another club too. Or I will sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can not set a date yourself. There are not many boxes that Tottenham does not tick, so if I have to leave, it will be a step forward. "

If Eriksen does not sign the new deal with the Spurs, Levy may want to move him this summer rather than let him go for a free year.
