Tottenham vs. Liverpool: Jose Mourinho thinks the Spurs could win many trophies if they win the Champions League final

[ad_1]

Jose Mourinho thinks that Tottenham could be predicted for a series of trophies when he won the Champions League against Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino has not yet won a trophy at the head of the Spurs, but he inspired a remarkable run in Madrid, including a strong comeback against Ajax.

Mourinho, jobless since the dismissal of Manchester United in December, believes the Spurs could be a lasting success if they could finally land silverware next week.

"Of course, the Spurs do not win titles and win the first, the biggest of all, would obviously be fantastic and would involve winning other national trophies (it's easier) because the Champions League is the greatest of all, "said Mourinho.

"I think, big game, of course, with huge pressure levels. We used to say that the finals should not play, the finals must win. "

1/29 Season's clbadification: Tottenham Hotspur

How did the Tottenham players perform this season? Before their last game of the 2018/19 season, the Champions League final against Liverpool in Madrid, we give each member of the Spurs team a score out of 10.

Getty

2/29 Mauricio Pochettino – 9

No new signatures. A delay at the new stage. And the worst crisis he has faced during his executive career. And yet, Pochettino followed everything in the wake, securing a spot in the top four and leading the Spurs to their very first Champions League final. No wonder there have been so many rumors that Real Madrid and Manchester United wanted to recruit him earlier in the season.

Getty

3/29 Hugo Lloris – 7

He made more than a few big mistakes and his defeat against Mohamed Salah's center at Anfield gave Liverpool three points in a captivating Premier League match. But he remains an exceptional shot thrower and his three consecutive penalty fumbles have proved crucial to Tottenham's attempts to finish in the top four.

4/29 Michel Vorm – 5

The 35-year-old has appeared only four times this season and has now been overtaken by Paulo Gazzaniga in the ranks of the goalkeepers.

Action Images via Reuters

5/29 Paulo Gazzaniga – 6

Impressed when he was called this season, claiming to be Tottenham's No.2 goalkeeper while winning his first call in Argentina.

Getty Images

6/29 Kieran Trippier – 4

He began his campaign on top after playing a superb World Cup with England, so much so that he was considered one of the best defenders of football. It all seems like a long time ago now. The season was tough for the 28-year-old, as his defensive vulnerabilities were repeatedly exposed. Was badociated with a move from North London this summer.

Getty

7/29 Danny Rose – 6

Formerly one of Tottenham's most important players, Rose's contribution has declined in recent years. Pochettino preferred Ben Davies to the left-back. But this season, Rose had a strong comeback, taking his place in Pochettino's favorite starting eleventh and seeming to repair the fuel links he had with his manager.

Getty Images

8/29 Toby Alderweireld – 7

Has made almost 50 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season. Absolutely invaluable for the club this season, although it has not yet agreed to an extension of contract and seems destined to leave this summer. The Spurs will have trouble signing a replacement of similar quality.

Getty Images

9/29 Jan Vertonghen – 8

A true legend of the club. Still reliable at the back, but we will always remember his season for his superb performance against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. At the left-back post, Vertonghen let Jadon Sancho rest all night, before scoring a magnificent goal: giving the Spurs total control of the Champions League match.

Getty Images

10/29 Davinson Sanchez – 7

The Colombian international is still very raw and can fight when isolated by opposition strikers, as when the Spurs were led by Ajax in the first leg of their semi-final. -final of the Champions League. But he is still 22 years old. It has such a great future and will be even more important for the club if Alderweireld actually leaves this summer.

Action Images via Reuters

11/29 Kyle Walker-Peters – 6

The 22-year-old is highly rated by the Spurs, but he would have hoped for a better campaign, especially given the difficulties of Trippier and Aurier. Walker-Peters will have been frustrated to have played only 10 games. If Spurs signed another halfback this summer, he'd do well to think about his future at the club.

Getty Images

12/29 Juan Foyth – 6

Seems sublime in fits and splinters and is adored by Pochettino. Foyth has also been calling for Argentina's national time for the first time this season. But the 21-year-old has had a hard time: conceding two penalties for his Premier League debut and receiving a red card in the shambolic defeat against Bournemouth.

REUTERS

13/29 Serge Aurier – 5

So much hype, such a small final product. A combination of injury problems and personal problems has seen Ivorian international restricted to just eight league games this season. It is obvious that Pochettino still does not completely trust him after a series of erratic performances following his move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

AFP / Getty Images

14/29 Ben Davies – 6

Lost his place in the first team of Tottenham for the benefit of Rose in recent weeks. Still an important player, but after an irregular season, he may fear the presumed arrival of Ryan Sessegnon of Fulham.

AFP / Getty Images

15/29 Harry winks with an eye – 7

Has battled injuries throughout the campaign and is currently returning from surgery to the groin. But which player. Has taken on many more responsibilities during this period – including scoring a winning goal against Fulham in January – and was so obviously missed when he was ruled out of the team due to a injury. Has formed an excellent partnership in the midfield with Moussa Sissoko.

EPA

16/29 Erik Lamela – 5

The season started reasonably well, marking a consolation against Liverpool and scoring against Brighton in the next match, but injuries kept him away for a significant part of the second half of the season. More and more doubtful that he will never stay fit enough to really consolidate a place in this team.

Getty Images

17/29 Victor Wanyama – 6

Unexpectedly, has again become a crucial player for the Spurs in recent weeks. The extent of his knee injuries in the past two seasons means he is unlikely to reach the same level he reached in the 2016/17 season. Despite some difficult times, he played an important role in the European victories of Manchester City and Ajax.

Getty Images

18/29 Georges-Kevin N & # 39; Koudou – 4

Nkou-who? Only made an appearance in the Premier League, crossing the ball to allow Winks to score against Fulham, before disappearing on loan in Monaco. There is absolutely no future in the Spurs.

REUTERS

19/29 Eric Dier – 5

A very disappointing season for an established player of the first team. Has been ruled out for a long time because of appendicitis and it is difficult to see where he stands in the eleventh favorite start of Pochettino when everyone is fit. And there is still some confusion as to whether it's best to deploy him as a midfielder or defender.

Getty Images

20/29 Moussa Sissoko – 8

Who on earth could have expected Sissoko to become Tottenham's most important player this season? Has completely turned his Spurs career. And although his arrival may remain dismal, the Spurs would simply not have reached the Champions League final without him.

(Credit too long, see legend)

21/29 Dele – 7

A difficult season for Dele who, like many of his teammates, had injury problems this season. He has also disappeared in recent weeks, perhaps because he's played so much football this summer. But he remains one of the most important players of the club, especially when he plays alongside a Kane in great shape.

EPA

22/29 Christian Eriksen – 7

Rumors of a summer transfer to La Liga as well as a series of mediocre performances saw his title fall among Tottenham supporters. But he is still the heartbeat of this team and has contributed to many important goals and aids, from his winner against Inter Milan to Wembley to his pbad to Son Heung-min to break the stalemate. during the inaugural game of the club in their new stadium.

REUTERS

23/29 Lucas Moura – 8

A decisive season for the Brazilian. Scored a brace against Manchester United, a hat-trick against Huddersfield, and then repeated that tour against Ajax in one of the most incredible performances of the Champions League history. Player a little partisan at the beginning of the season, Lucas is now a regular starting star and a cult hero.

Pennsylvania

24/29 Oliver Skipp – 6

The 18-year-old made 10 appearances in all competitions in his season debut. He was admiring when he was summoned and offered two badists in the FA Cup 7-0 win over Tranmere. One for the future, perhaps alongside our colleague's Winks product.

AFP / Getty Images

25/29 Mousa Dembele – 5

An ankle ligament injury ended his career in Tottenham, before a £ 11m transfer to Guangzhou R & F in the winter transfer market.

Action Images via Reuters

26/29 Heung-min son – 8

Tottenham player of the season. After his premature injury, Kane has scored 20 goals in all competitions, including this priceless winner against Manchester City in North London. The fact that he has accomplished so much and elevated his game to the next level in a season in which he competed in two major international tournaments with South Korea is simply remarkable.

(Credit too long, see legend)

27/29 Vincent Janssen – 5

Maybe a 5/10 is generous, but it's only in January that Pochettino said that Janssen was "not in my plans" and that he would not come back for the club. However, the club's injury crisis offers him a chance to compete, the Dutchman playing three times before the end of the campaign. Almost certain to leave this summer.

Getty Images

28/29 Fernando Llorente – 6

What a roller coaster season. Blocked as a substitute for injured Kane, he has scored only one goal in 20 Premier League matches, but has not been as successful as in the Champions League, bringing together ball over the line at Etihad against Manchester City. Another who is likely to leave this summer, but will be fondly remembered in North London.

REUTERS

29/29 Harry Kane – 7

He still managed to score 17 goals in the Premier League, despite a third injury of the season. The talisman of Tottenham – and yet he will come back on this campaign with regret after having damaged his ankle ligaments again. Does he have a chance to return to the Champions League final, but should Pochettino start?

The Spurs hopes of succeeding at Wanda Metropolitano were reinforced by the return of Harry Winks to the formation.

The English midfielder has been injured in the groin for three weeks.

But Pochettino could have Winks as an option against Jurgen Klopp.

Winks' partnership with Moussa Sissoko is considered the best of Spurs midfield, while Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen are also back in the race.
