Antibiotic resistance represents a growing threat to global health, development and food security. Antibiotic resistance has been partly attributable to the use of antibiotics, which has increased by 66% since 2000. To better understand the problem of resistance, researchers from the CDDEP have developed the Drug Resistance Index (DRI), which provides an overview of the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy by country. The DRI resembles stock indexes and combines measures of antibiotic consumption with resistance data to help compare overall resistance over time and across countries.

"The drug resistance index provides a useful and easy-to-understand metric that combines the use of antibiotics and resistance in a single digit," said the author of the report. study, Eili Klein. "This allows policymakers to understand the complex problem of resistance without going into the details of the diversity of different antibiotics and organisms, and to track the problem over time."

Using resistance data from the CDDEP ResistanceMap and data on the use of antibiotics extracted from the IQVIA MIDAS database, the researchers calculated the rates of exposure. IRC for 41 countries. Overall, the rates of CKD varied considerably from one country to another and ranged from a low of 8.1 in Sweden to a high of 71.6 in India.

High-income countries generally had lower CKD rates than low- and middle-income countries.
