Train Strikes in the East Midlands: Railway Passengers Face Disturbances

Rail travelers have been warned to expect a disruption of services as major train conductors go on strike as a result of a wage dispute.

Some members of the National Union of Rail, Shipping and Transport Workers (RMT) are dissatisfied with their current contracts with East Midlands Trains.

They announced uninterrupted departures three Saturdays in a row, starting today.

East Midlands Trains said that he would still be able to handle a "good service" during the action.

Union members voted in favor of a protest action to protest what they view as a lack of commitment on the part of the company to handle complaints about "the wage discrimination and Sunday work ".

Secretary General Mick Cash said strikes would begin "to force society to take issues seriously and act responsibly".

The company owned by Stagecoach – which is expected to divest the rail franchise at East Midlands in Abellio next month – said that trains linking London to the region would normally run during strikes but that there would be disruptions on the line. other connections.

This includes a revised schedule between Derby and Matlock, Liverpool and Nottingham, as well as replacement buses between Newark and Lincoln, Doncaster and Peterborough, and Lincoln and Grimsby.

Adam Piddington, Customer Experience Director at East Midlands Trains, said: "We remain disappointed that, despite the scheduling of the meeting, the RMTs do not wish to cancel their action, which unfortunately represents a disadvantage for our customers .

"We are open to all meetings with the MTA, but we must now focus on being able to offer the best possible service to our clients during the three days of union action."
