Liverpool beat Tranmere on Thursday night as Jurgen Klopp's team started off with style on a busy pre-season schedule.

Nathaniel Clyne opened the ball with a fierce strike after six minutes, before Rhian Brewster scored twice to leave the Reds 3-0 at halftime.

Curtis Jones, Divock Origi and Steven Gerrard's cousin Bobby Duncan added goals after the break.

Liverpool has named two completely different XIs in each half.

The youngsters were mingled with experience, like Simon Mignolet, James Milner and Adam Lallana, alongside Ryan Kent, Brewster and Ybader Larouci.

Mignolet was 45 minutes very quiet but there was a lot of action at the other end.

Clyne took the spectators out of their seats with a flash of thunder in the upper corner of the penalty area.

The most famous fan of Tranmere was on the field in the form of referee Mike Dean. He spent an unusually quiet night, but inadvertently played a brace with Milner in the first period.

Brewster was the featured man, showing great finesse in finishes.

Jones scored the goal 4-0 nine minutes after half-time when he attacked Ben Woodburn's center to get home.

Origi wore the captain's armband in the second half and was found on the scoresheet after recovering Joel Matip from the ball and dancing around the goalkeeper.

The price of the biggest party of the evening went to Duncan, visibly delighted after scoring the first goal of his senior career.

The 18-year-old, who is linked to one of Liverpool's top players, was delighted after discovering the net following the good work of Ki-Jana Hoever.

Apparently happy with six goals, Liverpool ended the night with young goalkeeper Daniel Atherton playing in the front after being replaced by Paul Glatzel for the last 12 minutes.
