Paris Saint-Germain could have taken the lead, ahead of Barcelona, in the race to the sensation of Ajax, Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports in Spain.
Many European teams have started chasing the 19-year-old team this summer. Barcelona, PSG, Liverpool, Juventus, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are all interested.
Barca appeared to be in the box to attract the Dutch central defender, but recent reports in Spain suggest that they have lost that advantage.
The Spanish publication AS suggests that De Ligt was not convinced by the offer made to him by Barcelona, mentioning the "sports guarantees".
This break in negotiations has allowed PSG to gain ground in the race, as the imminent return of Leonardo as sports director in Paris.
The Brazilian is on the verge of returning to his former camp, resuming his previous role in the process, which should give PSG another advantage in the De Ligt race.
Leonardo has excellent relations with De Ligt's agent, Mina Raiola, after negotiating agreements for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Maxwell between them during the Brazilian's previous visit to Paris.
The connection could be enough to keep the Dutchman away from Catalonia and the French capital.

Liverpool's interest in the teenager seems to have calmed down, the huge expected transfer fees likely to deter them, and the emphasis should be on strengthening the other areas of the team.
With Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren still at the club and able to partner with Virgil van Dijk, the central defender is not the Reds' top priority this summer.
De Ligt's last comment on his future came after the Dutch defeat against Portugal in the League of Nations final. He simply said, "I do not know, I do not know."
