Manchester United are ready to end their stake in Sean Longstaff after Newcastle United has claimed more than £ 50m for the midfielder.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the 21-year-old as the ideal candidate for his midfield that he wants to freshen up with young British talent.

Michael Carrick, admirer of United's coaching team, believes the midfielder can become a regular player on the first team at Old Trafford.

After getting stronger at the back and on the flanks until now, the Red Devils are determined to continue spending with a move to Longstaff.

United officials met with representatives from Newcastle earlier this week and Ed Woodward informed the Magpies that he was willing to spend between 18 and 20 million pounds for Longstaff, according to the Times.

However, Newcastle immediately rejected the offer and General Manager Lee Charnley insisted that the Magpies value Longstaff at about 50 million pounds sterling.

Their badessment is likely to end the interest of the Longstaff Red Devils this summer, as the club doubts they can reach a realistic compromise for the midfielder.

Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini have both left the club since the entry of Solskjaer, which means that the Norwegian wants at least one midfielder this summer to fill the void.

United was interested in Yuri Tielemans but pursued other options before deciding to relocate to Leicester.

The club remains hopeful of recruiting Leicester defender Harry Maguire, but the Foxes have rejected United's initial bid of 70 million pounds.
