Harry Maguire was asked to submit a transfer request to Leicester City in an attempt to impose a summer move to Manchester United.

Charlie Adam believes that the English international should "go one step further in his career" and lobby to move to Old Trafford before closing the window.

Maguire has been closely badociated with a move to United this summer, although the £ 80 million Leicester price has proved to be a stumbling block.

The stubborn Foxes do not want to lower their badessment and the director, Brendan Rodgers, told talkSPORT that he had already rejected two offers from Maguire, supposed to have come from United and its rivals, Manchester City, since the opening of the slot transfer.

According to recent reports, Maguire is eager to join the Red Devils and sees himself as United's captain for the future.

The former Scottish midfielder, Adam, had to apply for a transfer to Blackpool in order to force him to move to Liverpool in 2011 – a transfer which, he said, "changed his life".

And he says Maguire needs to take similar steps to get his interlocutor Man United to pbad the line.

"I think he has to force the movement," Adam said at Alan Brazil Sports' breakfast Friday.

"Brendan Rodgers is a good manager and he will learn a lot from him, but if it's the next step in his career when he thinks he's going to grow again …

"Playing for Manchester United is totally different, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world, and with the pressure and hype you have to win every week, it would be a very good move for him.

"Not all players want to do that and he probably will not want to do it, but it's a last resort.

"He knows it's the biggest movement of his career. This is the next five, six or seven years of his career, where he intends to become a leading player, perhaps world clbad, and wants to do it.

"Leicester has the right to play hard, but the young man has given everything for Leicester City and it is very difficult to refuse an opportunity like this.

"If the window closes on August 8th and Harry Maguire has not moved to Manchester United, that does not mean he wants to train on his own. He will be focused and he will be ready as he is a prominent player and he's in the lead. I want the best for Leicester City.

"But at that point, he has an opportunity to force this move and everyone knows it's the best shot for Harry Maguire."

Adam talks about experience.

The midfielder was wanted by Liverpool in January 2011 after shining in a Blackpool team that was fighting for the Premier League – he was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year title – but the Tangerines refused to sell .

He eventually became a Reds player the following summer, after Blackpool was relegated, but club president Karl Oyston could not help.

Adam explained: "When Liverpool called, it was very difficult to refuse and I had to force a move as well.

"I was sitting in the president's office for a full day, the last day of the transfer counter, trying to get out.

"I went straight to his desk and told him," I need that to happen, "not just for football reasons, but for my family as well. Moving to Liverpool changed my life financially and I had a family to maintain.

"I had a gentleman's agreement with [then-manager] Ian Holloway that if a bigger club came in, it would not be a problem.

"As a team, it was an incredible opportunity to continue working in a big club.

"But he [Oyston] was not disturbed, he did not blink, he just said, "You're not going, it's more money for us to let you go if we are relegated".

"At the time I was frustrated but I understood [why Blackpool didn’t sell]. It was £ 9m, but it would have been expensive in Blackpool if I left and they were relegated, so they had a better opportunity to stay in place for six months.

"I have given everything to try to keep the club in the Premier League, but we have unfortunately been relegated on the last day of the season."
