Bayern Munich boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge placed the ball in Leroy Sane's camp after a transfer from Manchester City.
The Winger Sane figures prominently on Bayern's wish list, which wants to recruit two wingmen to replace Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
The Guardian announced last week that the German champions had already made a $ 71 million bid on Sane, but Rummenigge denied it.
Instead, the CEO revealed that Bayern was waiting to see if Sane wanted the move before considering whether to act or not.
"We have not bid for Leroy Sane, it's not that far yet," Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild.
"The player must first decide if he can imagine coming to Bayern, if that is the case, we negotiate with Manchester City.
"The player is the most important factor." Apparently, Leroy has not decided yet, Hasan Salihamidzic is leading the negotiations here.
"I think the player is exciting, both as a footballer and as a guy."
Sane was forced to wait patiently for his chances at Etihad last season, having started only 21 times in the Premier League while City won two consecutive titles.
The offshore has strong competition from David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.
Although the manager, Pep Guardiola, confessed that he was desperate to keep hold of the German international.
"We have proposed to extend his contract, we want him to stay, what proof does he have for more than six or seven months, we want to extend his contract, and if we do not want it, we will not extend it.
"Some moves we have to do for next season, because people want to leave, players want to play.
"They agree not to play for a while, but it's normal that they want to play more. I can not badure anyone, so I totally understand. "
