Ndombele: I'm not the new Pogba
Tanguy Ndombele has downplayed comparisons between him and the Premier League midfielders, past and present, and insists that he is willing to prove his unique talent for both Tottenham and for France.
Tottenham beat stiff competition to clinch a club record this summer with Manchester United, PSG and Juventus all tied to the 22 – year – old French international.
Ndombele impressed during his two seasons in Lyon. He compared his compatriots with his compatriot Paul Pogba thanks to his impressive first contact, his eye to the pbad and his ability to dribble.
But Ndombele mocked comparisons with the Manchester United star, told The Team: "I've heard everything, I'm here to create my own path.
"Paul created his in England, I'm Tanguy: not the new [Michael] Essien; not the new Pogba. "
When asked what kind of player he wanted to become in North London, Ndombele replied, "Myself, I want to be myself.
"I want to become the person I am supposed to become.I am here to work, I am 22 years old, I am not at my maximum, I do not think so, I hope anyway."
Ndombele has made six appearances in the French national team and faces a daunting task: replacing N & # 39; Golo Kante and Pogba in Didier Deschamps midfielder.
The 22-year-old made his debut in France as a substitute for Pogba against Iceland in October 2018 and, although Ndombele agrees that he has to wait his hour, he is ready to take up the challenge.
"I'm not going to say that I'm far away, but [Kante and Pogba] are ahead of me. There is work to be done, I must continue to shove.
"They have become world champions, so they are automatically in front of me, they have more experience than I. I see him in training during sequences.
"These little details, movements, turns, I'm eternally dissatisfied, so I'll continue to learn."
