Translating macroeconomic gains into improved living conditions – TUC

In a statement after his annual general convention
Council meeting, the TUC said that the right series of macroeconomic measures
statistics do not adequately and visibly reflect in the life of the
majority of Ghanaians.

The TUC said while the economy was growing,
real wages were declining and emphasized the need to pay particular attention to
wages in the examination.

"No economy can develop sustainably
if the real purchasing power kept decreasing, "the statement said.

"In the public sector, for example, in the context of
austerity measures introduced by the IMF-sponsored Expanded Credit Program
Facility Facility, wage increases have fallen behind inflation
reverse the real earnings gains of public sector workers, particularly those
placed on the single-column salary structure, "the statement added.

He stated that public sector workers were waiting for
that the impending wage negotiations for 2020 would reverse this negative trend
