Travelodge customers have received spammy fake job offers following a data breach in the hotel chain. The extent of the breach is not yet clear, as is how access to the system was obtained and the motivation for the hack.
The company is currently investigating the issue, according to a letter sent to customers yesterday by chief executive Guy Parsons.
“Our main priority is to ensure the security of our customers’ data, which is why I wanted to inform you that a small number of you may have received spam via the email address you have registered. with us, ”the letter says.
“The safety and security of your personal information is of the utmost importance to us and, therefore, we are currently conducting a thorough investigation into this issue.”
While it’s not clear how many customers were affected by the breach, more than six million people stayed at a Travelodge last year, according to the company’s website. About 87 percent of customers also used its website to make reservations.
Parsons’ letter was intended to reassure concerned customers that the company “had not sold any customer data and no financial information was compromised.”
A Travelodge press spokeswoman confirmed the information about the violation was correct and said a statement would be released shortly.
The channel informed the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) of the breach, according to reports.
