President Donald Trump welcomed mbad layoffs in several media on Saturday, claiming that "many more would follow" and attributing this loss to "Fake News".

"False news and bad journalism have caused a big slowdown, but unfortunately, many others will follow – people want the truth!" he tweeted.

Trump was referring to more than 1,000 media jobs that were removed this week after HuffPost owner Verizon Media, along with Gannett and BuzzFeed, announced significant staff cuts.

Leading editors of BuzzFeed and HuffPost immediately criticized Trump for his remarks.

"1,000 journalists lost their jobs last week, ordinary people with rent to pay, families to support, student loan bills expiring," said HuffPost editor Lydia Polgreen. tweeted. "They are workers like everyone else who does not deserve this cruelty."

"What a disgusting thing to say about dozens of American workers who have just lost their jobs," Ben Smith, editor of BuzzFeed tweeted.

BuzzFeed has particularly infuriated Trump in recent weeks, after the website published a bomb report that Trump ordered his former repairman, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress.

The story was criticized after the special council office, Robert Mueller, issued an unprecedented statement claiming that parts of the story were inaccurate. BuzzFeed, however, said he remains confident in his reports.
