The groom P.J. Mongelli told CNN that Trump was the first to spend the badtail hour to meet the bride Nicole Marie and other family members. Mongelli said that they had sent multiple invitations to Trump, but did not know if he would actually show up.
"It was a total and total surprise," said Mongelli.
Mongelli said that he had asked the president a favor: greet the guests at the reception.
The video posted on social media showed Trump, dressed in a dark suit but no tie, standing in front of a door and greeting the jubilant crowd. The president asked the newlyweds of Staten Island to approach and they stood on either side of him, raised their fists and directed the song "USA! USA!" the video showed.
"He was so good-natured," Mongelli said. "He was ace."
Mongelli said that he and his wife were both powerful supporters of Trump, along with most wedding guests. The couple is engaged to the golf club in November 2017, he said.
The president was staying at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster on weekends and returned to Washington on Sunday.
Trump appeared unexpectedly at wedding receptions.
"I told the Prime Minister of Japan, I said:" Come on Shinzo, let's go and say hello, "Trump told the crowd at the wedding.
