Trump recognizes the new administration and condemns the crowds of his supporters who attacked the U.S. Capitol.
President Donald Trump has acknowledged that Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States and said he is now focused on a peaceful transition of power, a day after his supporters violently attacked the United States Capitol.
“A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. My goal now is to ensure a smooth, orderly and transparent power transition. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation, ”Trump said in a video statement posted on Twitter.
The president denounced the “heinous” attack on the Capitol and said the rioters had “defiled the seat of American democracy.”
The Republican president has come under intense political pressure after several Republicans and Democrats criticized him for inciting violence and leading Democrats called for his immediate resignation.
Democratic leaders in the U.S. Congress attempted to contact Vice President Mike Pence to immediately replace Trump with the 25th Amendment to the Constitution. This provision allows a vice-president to replace a president if he is unable to perform his duties. Pence wouldn’t take their call.

The statement marked a change of tone for Trump, who spent months claiming without evidence that the election was marred by widespread fraud.
