Trump still threatens tariff on Mexico despite agreement

STERLING, Va. – President Donald Trump said he could renew his tariff threat against Mexico if the US ally did not cooperate on border issues.

Trump said Sunday in a series of tweets that "if, for some unknown reason," such cooperation fails, "we can always return to our previous, very profitable, position in tariffs." He says that he does not believe that it will be necessary.

Trump defended Friday's deal with Mexico to avoid a 5% tariff on all Mexican products scheduled to come into effect Monday. It has been announced with a lot of fanfare, but has few new solutions to quickly stop the influx of migrants entering the United States.

He insists that this includes the changes that his and other administrations have claimed, "but have not been able to get them, nor get them all" until now.
