The SpaceX port that Elon Musk is building in Boca Chica, Texas for launching commercial rockets on Mars is likely to be cut in half by the US-Mexican border wall of Donald Trump.
A map prepared by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicates the proposed route of the fence between Mexico and the United States, cutting the launch site of SpaceX South Texas, reported Bloomberg.
The 50-acre (20-hectare) spaceport is currently under construction in the village of Boca Chica, near the city of Brownsville, and is among the other four spaceports of the company. The others are located in Florida and California.
The proposed wall "right crosses" SpaceX Texas
The remote Texas site is intended to be used for commercial launches from the United States, including the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets.
But the proposed route of the border wall would seriously hamper these efforts and has sparked the Democrats' concern, according to Bloomberg.
"The problem with SpaceX is that the fence cuts across their property and that's a problem," said California MP Lucille Roybal-Allard.
Representatives are now pushing for the SpaceX site to be spared by the road walls, before the final approval of the project on February 15, 2019.
SpaceX refuses to comment
For their part, SpaceX and Musk have refused to comment on the situation concerning the Texan site.
Bloomberg added that company spokesman James Gleeson had confirmed that the DHS and the US Customs and Border Protection had visited the Texas hub, but had refused to confirm whether the fence would affect the project.
