AURORA, Colorado – Health officials have finished testing tuberculosis among Aurora Hills high school students and staff and found no one else who was ill, a statement said. of the Tri-County Health Department.
The tests were needed after school members were exposed to a person with tuberculosis, a disease largely eradicated, during the fall semester of 2018, according to a message sent home to parents .

The first tests in January did not show that people had contracted TB at school.

However, in February, repeated tests on the same exposed people showed that some of them were infected with the disease, but none was sick, a press release from Denver Public Health said.
Because of the results of these tests, the tests were extended to all students and staff present at the school in the fall.

This series of tests is also over, announced Friday the health department of Tri-County.
According to this latest publication, they have not found anyone with tuberculosis, but they have identified several people infected with the disease. It's not clear if these are the same people who were infected during the February test, or if it's other infected patients.
The release states that those who have been found infected follow an badessment and treatment in order to avoid developing active or contagious tuberculosis in the future.
The release also states that they do not expect additional tests to take place at the school.
According to the letter sent to parents, a person must spend hours with a person with tuberculosis to contract TB. It's contagious – but not as most people think. You can not get TB by simply touching a doorknob, tables, utensils, or other surfaces.
Denver Public Health has not found any other people with TB; there is therefore no permanent risk of exposure to TB in school. People with tuberculosis infection who are not sick can not transmit TB to other people.
Tuberculosis is a disease caused by germs that spread from one person to another through the air. It usually affects the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body.
- Most people exposed to TB are not infected.
- Infected people can not transmit TB to other people unless they are sick.
- The typical symptoms of tuberculosis are chronic cough, fever or night sweats that persist for several weeks and usually worsen.
- A person who is infected with TB but who is not sick can be treated to eliminate the infection to keep him from getting sick in the future.
- Additional information on TB is available on the website of the Denver Metro Tuberculosis Clinic.
