Tullow Ghana is stepping up its focus on local content in the upstream oil and gas sector.
To this end, the oil company's first Human Resources Mentoring Program trained 24 HR professionals in a high-impact capacity building project.
Irene Asare, Program Manager, Human Resources and Business Services, Tullow Ghana, told JoyBusiness that her team would invest heavily in human resources so that Ghanaians can take on the roles of expatriates.
"Much of our legacy as professionals is to contribute to building the capacity of those who wear the coat and follow us. The possibility not only of pbading on knowledge, but also of acquiring it, is an important part of the development of every human being, whether personally or professionally, "she said.
As a partner in the mentorship program, Edward Kwarpong, president of the Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners (PIRH), expressed confidence in this initiative.
"We recognize the importance of mentoring to achieve positive professional and personal development, it is the institutionalization of this equally important mentoring program for human resources. We need more such programs to make human resource professionals highly specialized, "he said.
Kweku Awotwi, General Manager of Tullow Ghana Ltd, congratulated all the mentees who completed the mentorship program.
According to him, "this program finds its expression in Tullow's support to the Ghanaian education system and to the management of human resources".
In all, 24 mentees graduated from the inaugural mentoring program with awarding rewards to outstanding mentees.
