The presidential elections will be held in Tunisia on September 15, announced the electorate of the North African country, rejecting calls for the postponement of the vote after the death of the leader in distress Beji Caid Essebsi.
"The office of the Independent High Authority for Elections has set the date of September 15 for the presidential election," Nabil Baffoun, chairman of the organization, told reporters Tuesday after consultations with the parties. policies.
Originally scheduled for November, the vote had been advanced following the death of Essebsi on 25 July.
Potential candidates must apply between August 2nd and 9th.
The campaigns should run from September 2nd to 13th. The results should be announced two days after the election.
The date of the second round of the presidential election has not yet been fixed, but Baffoun has announced that it will take place no later than 3 November.
The announcement took place just hours after the meeting of representatives of political parties and civil society, some of whom demanded the postponement of the first round of elections with legislative elections scheduled for 6 October.
