TVET consultant commissions technical universities to advance government's industrialization agenda

– The country's technical universities have been tasked with pushing the government
industrialization through technical and vocational training
(TEVT).

According to Dr.
Stephen Turkson, TVET consultant, the country has mainly used
universities to push its agenda of industrialization forward to meet
development challenges and create jobs for the population.

Unemployment, he
observed, could be significantly reduced if conscious efforts were made to
at the center of the country's education system, he added.

Speaking to a
Symposium, organized by Sunyani Technical University, on its campus,
Dr. Turkson advised students to develop interest and take TVET courses.
to create jobs for themselves.

In the end, he said
TVET courses would prepare and broaden students' minds so that they can
gaining paid employment and minimizing their excessive dependence on the government
for jobs.

The meeting of education
was on the theme: "Skills Development and Entrepreneurship through TVET
for accelerated national development. ".

Overall, Dr. Turkson
explained that 80% of all jobs are TVET-related, which means that TVET is in the foreground
center of everything and Ghana needs to sharpen it and develop it
entrepreneurial skills to create employment opportunities for people.

He said that it was
unfortunate that Ghanaian society views TVET as a reserve for failures
drop-out and indicated that technical and vocational education
could drive the economy and facilitate accelerated national development.

Teacher. Ing. Kwadwo
Adinkrah-Appiah, the vice chancellor of STU, said the government had
provided the University with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment for
the university to start a four-year Bachelor of Technology program.

The equipment, would
reduce the cost of student training as well as facilitate and improve
effective practical studies to become relevant in the labor market, he added.
