Two articulated trucks carrying 600 bags of cocoa beans caught fire on Monday morning as a result of a head-on collision near the roundabout of the Tema highway.

One of the trucks was moving from a waiting yard to the weighbridge area, while the other was turning around to join a waiting line for the weighbridge when they collided, causing a spontaneous fire.

The 7:35 incident did not kill, as both drivers managed to escape before the fire escalated. The timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service has prevented cocoa beans and trucks from burning completely.
The trucks, registered GN 4814 -Y and GS 4519-11, belong to Produce Buying Company and Trans Royal.

"It took us five minutes to get to the place. When we arrived, we realized that two trucks collided, which caused the fire, "said Timothy Affum, Tema's Deputy Regional Fire Marshal, 3news.com.

He said the two trucks "were partially burned and affected some of the beans," noting that "the intensity was such that we had to use fire offers to control the situation".

Mr Affum stated that the staff of the motorway fire station arrived first on the scene but had to seek the help of the fire station of the industrial zone. According to him, they needed more water, so the Tema Metro Fire Station was called.

The owners of the Tarzan Court where the incident occurred have expressed their shock to the development.
