PESHAWAR: Two other polio cases have been reported in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Bajaur tribal district, the National Center for Emergency Operations (NEOC) in Islamabad said Saturday.
According to NEOC, the National Institute of Health (NIH) reportedly isolated wild poliovirus in the stool sample of a 36-month-old boy, Abdur Rehman, and a daughter of 78 months, Nabila. Both are residents of Jaba Manzai Village, UC Tali and Tehsil Salarzai of Bajaur District.
The "dates of onset" in which children were paralyzed due to poliovirus were 29 December 2018 and 31 December 2018, respectively. Stool samples were collected for the presence of the polio virus on 201 January 2019 with Abdur Rehman and Nabila respectively.
The laboratory isolated wild poliovirus stool and confirmed that it was polio good. Both children received more than 7 doses of oral polio vaccine and no essential / routine immunization dose. Both children have slight weakness in one of the limbs or slight paralysis.
Kamran Ahmed Afridi, NEOC K-P Coordinator, said: "Every confirmed case of polio in Bajaur is proof in itself that the gap exists and that it is necessary to improve the quality of the campaign. Teams have already been notified of who should identify the gaps and propose the recovery strategy. "
He advised the provincial team to ensure access and immunization for every child, especially in Bajaur during the next polio campaign. He said that any negligence on the part of an officer will be treated strictly.
In tribal districts, a three-day polio campaign will be launched from Monday, 21 January to 23 January. It will be followed by a catch-up of missed children and their supervision, under the supervision and safety provided by the Deputy Commissioners, District Health Authorities. officers and security forces.
A total of 4,120 teams consisting of 3,803 mobile teams, 227 fixed teams and 90 mobile transit teams will lead the campaign and attempt to reach a total of 8,84,771 children under 5 years of age.
