Two new cases of measles were confirmed in Greater Victoria by Island Health late Saturday.
This is the fourth and fifth case of measles on the island and the 25th confirmed case in British Columbia. since the beginning of the year.
The new confirmations bring new warnings from health authorities about possible public exposure to the measles virus, this time involving high-traffic sites such as Camosun College, Hillside Mall, BC Transit, etc.
The sources of the latest cases of measles are being investigated, but for now, they do not seem to be related to previous cases, confirmed last week.
The following places and times, where the exposure may have occurred, are those in which people who are not immunized or who have not been fully immunized can quickly receive the vaccine and possibly avoid the disease. .

For those who were at either of these locations at specified times and are not immunized or who have not been fully immunized, call the Saanich Health Unit at 250- 519-5100 or the Victoria Health Unit at 250-388-2200.
The Victoria and Saanich Health Units will be open April 7 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm The MMR vaccine will be available at both locations.
Other exposures to measles viruses may have occurred at the following locations, dates and times, but vaccination will no longer prevent the infection. Island Health asks people who may have been exposed to monitor the symptoms for 21 days after the date of exposure.

Those who have never been infected with measles or who have not received two doses of vaccine are at greatest risk of contracting measles and are encouraged to be vaccinated completely.
Vaccination against measles is free for everyone. Two doses of measles vaccine are 99% effective in the prevention of measles. One dose of vaccine is 95% effective.
If you develop symptoms, please contact your health care provider before visiting him so that he can take precautions to prevent the transmission of measles to other people.
Symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, sore throat, cough, diarrhea and red eyes, followed a few days later by a rash that starts on the face and spreads to the chest.
